How do I show furigana on hardsubs?
Cover the Japanese hardsub with a zone, turn on Interact, check Japanese, then turn on Furigana in the subtitle panel Settings → Readings. Hiragana furigana is the default reading system.

A video page with Japanese burned-in subtitles.
Steps
Cover the line
- Add a zone over the hardsub and turn on Interact.
- Check Japanese on the language chips.
Enable Furigana
- Open the subtitle panel Settings → Readings.
- In the Japanese dropdown, leave Hiragana furigana selected, or switch to katakana or romaji.
