Can I type romaji to search Japanese?
Yes. When Japanese is one of your learning languages, the search popup and page-scan convert romaji to hiragana automatically. Type dekai and the lookup finds でかい. You do not need a Japanese keyboard or IME.
Prerequisites
Japanese is selected in the popup → Dictionary → Learning languages. At least one Japanese dictionary is installed.
Steps
Check learning languages
- Open the extension popup → Dictionary tab.
- Make sure Japanese is selected in Learning languages.
Open search or page scan
- Press your search hotkey, or hold the page-scan modifier and hover text.
Type romaji
- Type the word in romaji (e.g., taberu, dekai, neko).
- YuzuLingo converts it to hiragana and looks up the result.
- Deinflection still works—tabeta finds 食べる.
