YuzuLingo vs SubMiner (ksyasuda)
YuzuLingo stays in the browser. You cover burned-in subtitles on the video you are already watching, including YouTube, Bilibili, and other web players. There is no media player to set up and no video file to download. Turn on Interact to read the burned-in line on your device, with furigana or pinyin when the language has them. Show that text always, on hover, or while you hold a hotkey.
SubMiner is ksyasuda’s overlay for mpv, in the repo SubMiner. You install mpv, then SubMiner. It puts its own Yomitan over the subtitle track so you can look words up, and one press sends the sentence, an audio clip, and a screenshot to Anki. It can color words by frequency and JLPT level, and it keeps a stats page for watch time on your machine. With yt-dlp it can play a YouTube URL. It can also download subtitles from Jimaku, connect to Jellyfin and AniList, and make Japanese subtitles from the audio with whisper.cpp. Mining needs AnkiConnect. Version 0.20.1. It does not cover words burned into the picture.
