YuzuLingo vs YouTube Sub Blur (kenzofnu)
YuzuLingo covers burned-in subtitles on the video you are already watching, including YouTube and other web players. You can draw more than one zone, and use blur or a solid cover. Turn on Interact to read the burned-in line on your device, with furigana or pinyin when the language has them. Show that text always, on hover, or while you hold a hotkey. There is no separate OCR server. It runs in Firefox as well as Chrome.
YouTube Sub Blur is kenzofnu’s Chrome extension in the repo Youtube-Sub-Blur. It puts one blur box over hardsubs on YouTube, and the box works with no extra setup. Review mode rewinds a stretch with the subs showing, then again with them covered. Optional OCR and Anki need a local Windows server, Python, AnkiConnect, yt-dlp, and ffmpeg. Japanese OCR uses Google Lens first, with MeikiOCR as the fallback. A card can get a screenshot and sentence audio, and you look the text up with Yomitan. The last commit is about seven months ago, and there is no release.
